I’ve been putting off posting to my blog, more because I don’t like posting about the same old stuff all the time than anything else.
Daniel is pretty much potty-trained at this point, other than nighttime. He rode in the car to my parents’ house this weekend without a diaper. We had to stop a few times on the way for him to go to the bathroom, but that’s just part of it. I came up with a reward system (putting Xs on a calendar) to get him to go poo in the toilet, which is working pretty well. It’s been a while since he had an accident at all.
My CAL team is doing great. We’re 5-1, with our only loss to the (then) number one team in our division. Some of my teammates think 6-2 is good enough to make playoffs, but I think we need to win both of our final matches to be sure. For those of you who don’t know, CAL is the Cyberathlete Amateur League…basically the hometown co-rec softball league of online gaming. I think this is probably my last season of full-time play, as there are a few other things I want to focus on and I’ve put a lot of time into the CAL team over the last nine months.
I’m getting a little frustrated with Daniel’s sleep schedule right now, as he isn’t falling asleep until almost 10:30 most nights. It’s probably just a phase, but it’s still frustrating. *sigh*
I’m going to Columbus for a few days at the beginning of spring break to visit with some friends, so that should be a nice getaway. When I was talking to my therapist last week, I realized that it’s been over two years since I’ve been out of the state (except for one trip to the Beef House…and 4 miles into Indiana for lunch doesn’t really count). It’s also been a long time since I went on any sort of vacation that wasn’t family related or had more than two or three days without Daniel (that wasn’t over a holiday). I think it will be a nice break, give me some time to relax, let go, and then get back to my life with renewed vigor.
Thanks to Dave, I got to see a couple of good Illini basketball games in late January/early February. It had been several years since I’d been to a game, so I found myself with renewed interest for the basketball team at that point. My interest for the past two season had been virtually non-existant, as watching Illini basketball was something that Melissa and I shared. Getting back to the things I enjoy in spite of that is refreshing.
New episodes of South Park start tomorrow, so I’ll have something to watch on a weekly basis again. The new season of The Shield starts in April, so I’m looking forward to that too.
I just had a realization that the time change is this weekend and that it might be a good springboard to get Daniel back on his regular 8:30-9:00 bedtime. That will be a nice relief, hopefully. I also like that it isn’t dark when I leave work, though it took me a few days to realize that the sun wasn’t setting in the East, but was just reflecting off of the windows of the Siebel Center and right into my eyes as I walked out the East door of Newmark.
I think I’m going to try to start making an effort to do one thing each week that is worth blogging about…something out of the ordinary. Once a week is probably a bit of overkill…maybe once a month is more likely. 😉
For now, I need to get back to work…if only I felt comfortable relating work stories, this blog would be constantly active. 🙂
