Rascal Flatts – Bless the Broken Road

Rascal Flatts – Bless the Broken Road

I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn’t see how every sign pointed straight to you

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I’d like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You’ve been there you understand
It’s all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

Now I’m just rolling home
Into my lovers arms
This much I know, is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

Ben and Liza had their first dance together with this song. Wow…I love it.

EDIT: I’ve been going over and over the fate vs. my views thing since I posted this and I can’t really figure out how to word my own thoughts…but I guess that my perception contains the ability to make choices. Meaning that there might be “one right person out there for everyone”, but that we might make choices that cause us not to find that person. Or we might make poor choices that lead us to a person we might not have otherwise met. And this isn’t generalized to people, but also to events and outcomes in our lives. I don’t believe in predestination or fate, that my path is already laid out in front of me. I believe that I can make choices that influence those outcomes, like taking the initiative to e-mail someone or ask someone out on a date, in spite of my huge fears of both initiation and rejection. I know that kind of rambles a bit, but I hope you get the gist of what I mean. *sigh*

EDIT 2: I’ve listened to this song 12 times since I picked it up…it’s #2 in my iTunes most played songs list (though admittedly, that list only dates back about a month…) and has 10 more plays to catch #1 (Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Snow (Hey Oh)).
